Dial-up falls while broadband rises

Dial-up falls while broadband rises

July 17, 2015

New research by Point Topic indicates that UK dial-up internet connections could drop to just 700,000 by the end of 2016.

An estimated 1.4 million homes in the UK dropped their 56K connections in the last six months, leaving just 2.2 million narrowband across the UK.

The migration away from dial-up is expected to continue as people increasingly move to faster broadband connections which are ‘always on’ and provide access to resources that aren’t available with the much slower dial-up service.

As more and more people turn to broadband, its price has dropped considerably to around the same level as a dial-up connection.

At the current rate of migration there will be just 1.5 million dial-up connections by the end of the year. By 2018 it could have disappeared altogether.
